Mike's Murder is the 1983 motion picture soundtrack album from the film of the same name.[1] The album features original music by Joe Jackson.[1]
Jackson was asked to contribute a track to Mike's Murder, a film written and directed by James Bridges and starring Debra Winger.[3] Jackson wrote several songs and a few instrumental pieces that were released on this album in September 1983.[3] The film's opening was delayed until March 1984, by which time it had a score by John Barry, and only a little of Jackson's music remained.[3] The original soundtrack album managed a U.S. Top 100 placing, and spawned a minor chart single in the Jackson composition "Memphis"; whilst "Breakdown" earned Jackson a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.[3]
Mike's Murder was released on CD in 2006 on the Lilith label. The album's first five tracks were also included on the 2003 deluxe edition reissue of Jackson's Night and Day album.
In June 2009, Prometheus Records released a CD of John Barry's replacement soundtrack, containing the entire score.
